Choose your animated PNG

APNG / animated PNG · Up to 20MiB

Up to 4 megapixels per frame, 300 frames and a 128MiB frame cache.
Choose a file to begin.
THREE SIMPLE STEPS

How to use this tool

  1. Choose an animated PNG

Select an APNG up to 20MiB. Its frames are composed locally into complete images; static PNG input is not supported.

  2. Choose your settings

Choose transparent output and an Alpha threshold, or choose White, Black or Custom color for the background.

  3. Inspect and download

Select Generate result. Check edges and colors in the preview, then download the GIF. Try an opaque background if semi-transparent edges look rough.

MADE FOR THIS TASK

Key features

  • Compose animated PNG frames

Convert APNG blend and disposal settings into complete animation frames before GIF encoding.

  • Choose transparency or a background

Use an alpha threshold or composite onto white, black or a custom color. GIF supports one-bit alpha and at most 256 palette entries.

  • Free, without an account

Use the available controls, preview and downloads without sign-up or payment. Processing runs on your device within the stated format and memory limits.

What APNG to GIF changes

Select an animated PNG. A static PNG is rejected because this tool is intended for APNG animations. Frame composition accounts for its blend and disposal settings.

Choose transparent output with an alpha threshold, or composite onto white, black or a custom background. The default threshold is 128 on a 0–255 alpha scale.

Format details and limits

APNG has partial alpha and many colors; GIF uses one-bit transparency and a palette. Partial-alpha edges can become jagged in transparent mode. A background usually gives smoother-looking edges.

A practical example

For an APNG sticker with a soft shadow, try a white background before sharing it in an application that accepts GIF but not APNG.

Supported files and processing limits

Animation input is limited to 20MiB, 4 megapixels per frame, 300 frames and a 128MiB RGBA frame cache.

Processing and packaging stop after 60 seconds. Device memory and browser capabilities can limit smaller files too. Cancel or clear the task to release its working results; changing a setting clears the old download.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert an ordinary static PNG here?

No. This page requires an animated PNG with animation control data. It rejects static PNG input rather than pretending that it contains multiple frames.

Why did the transparent edge change?

GIF cannot represent partial alpha. Pixels are classified as transparent or opaque using your threshold; a fixed background preserves the visual blend more naturally.

What changes during animated PNG to GIF conversion?

GIF supports at most 256 palette entries and one-bit transparency. The APNG GIF converter reduces colors when needed; use an alpha threshold or composite onto an opaque background.

Why was my file rejected?

Input up to 20MiB, 4 megapixels per frame and 300 frames. Total RGBA frame cache is limited to 128MiB. Invalid or unsupported file data is rejected. Try a smaller file or another browser if memory or encoding support is insufficient.

Are my files sent to a server?

No. Your input and generated output remain in your browser. Close the page or clear the tool to release its local results.
