THREE SIMPLE STEPS

How to use this tool

  1. Choose your GIF

Select a GIF up to 20MiB. Use Play or the Preview frame slider to inspect the decoded animation before making changes.

  2. Choose your settings

Leave Boomerang unchecked to play the source backwards, or enable it to add a backward return after a forward pass.

  3. Inspect and download

Select Generate result. Inspect pauses and turning points in the preview, then download the GIF.

MADE FOR THIS TASK

Key features

  • Play frames backwards

Reverse frame order with each frame’s corresponding delay, so a long pause stays attached to the same image.

  • Create a Boomerang return

Add a backward pass after the forward animation without duplicating turning endpoints. Extra frames still count toward processing limits.

  • Free, without an account

Use the available controls, preview and downloads without sign-up or payment. Processing runs on your device within the stated format and memory limits.

What Reverse GIF changes

Choose a GIF and generate a reversed animation. Each frame moves with its own delay, so a longer pause stays attached to the same image.

Enable Boomerang for a forward pass followed by the interior frames in reverse order. Turning points are not duplicated at the loop boundary. One- and two-frame animations remain valid.

Format details and limits

The source loop setting and decoded transparency are retained. Boomerang increases frame count and can exceed the 300-frame or memory limit; choose a shorter animation if needed.

A practical example

Reverse an opening door to show it closing, or use Boomerang for a bouncing character. Inspect the turning points with the preview slider.

Supported files and processing limits

Animation input is limited to 20MiB, 4 megapixels per frame, 300 frames and a 128MiB RGBA frame cache.

Processing and packaging stop after 60 seconds. Device memory and browser capabilities can limit smaller files too. Cancel or clear the task to release its working results; changing a setting clears the old download.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Will Boomerang make the output larger?

Usually it adds frames and can increase the file size. It also counts toward the 300-frame and 128MiB frame-cache limits. Trim a long animation before creating a forward-and-backward loop.

How does Boomerang differ from reverse?

Reverse reorders all frames backward. Boomerang adds a backward return after the forward pass without duplicating the endpoint frames.

Can a GIF reverser preserve pauses?

Yes. Each reversed frame carries its own delay. Reverse an animated GIF to play it backwards, or enable Boomerang for a forward pass followed by a backward return.

Why was my file rejected?

Input up to 20MiB, 4 megapixels per frame and 300 frames. Total RGBA frame cache is limited to 128MiB. Invalid or unsupported file data is rejected. Try a smaller file or another browser if memory or encoding support is insufficient.

Are my files sent to a server?

No. Your input and generated output remain in your browser. Close the page or clear the tool to release its local results.
