THREE SIMPLE STEPS

How to use this tool

  1. Choose your GIF

Select a GIF up to 20MiB. Use Play or the Preview frame slider to inspect the decoded animation before making changes.

  2. Choose your settings

Select thumbnail checkboxes or use Select all / Select none. Choose PNG, supported static WebP or JPEG with a background color.

  3. Inspect and download

Select Generate result. Download the individual still images you need or save the selected frames together as a ZIP.

MADE FOR THIS TASK

Key features

  • Select complete animation frames

Use composed frame previews and choose exactly the images you need, including Select all and Select none controls.

  • Export still images

Save PNG, supported static WebP or background-composited JPEG. Individual downloads and a selected-frame ZIP are generated together.

  • Free, without an account

Use the available controls, preview and downloads without sign-up or payment. Processing runs on your device within the stated format and memory limits.

What GIF Frame Extractor changes

Choose a GIF to see composed frames rather than incomplete patch rectangles. Use the numbered thumbnail checkboxes, Select all or Select none.

Choose PNG to retain transparency. Static WebP is available when the browser supports encoding it. JPEG composites transparency onto the selected background. Generate to create individual downloads and a ZIP.

Format details and limits

The archive contains exactly the selected frames, in their original numbered order. This is still-image extraction, not animated WebP export. Unsupported browser encoders give an explicit error instead of renaming PNG bytes.

A practical example

Pick the first, middle and last frames to illustrate a tutorial, or export all PNG frames for a sprite workflow.

Supported files and processing limits

Animation input is limited to 20MiB, 4 megapixels per frame, 300 frames and a 128MiB RGBA frame cache.

Processing and packaging stop after 60 seconds. Device memory and browser capabilities can limit smaller files too. Cancel or clear the task to release its working results; changing a setting clears the old download.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Can I export an animated WebP?

No. WebP here is a still-image option for selected frames, and requires browser encoder support. Choose PNG if static WebP encoding is unavailable.

Are extracted frames complete images?

Yes. Each frame includes the pixels carried over from previous GIF patches according to disposal settings. Individual frames do not retain animation timing as image metadata.

Can I split a GIF into frames and download just one?

Yes. Select the frames you need. GIF to PNG frames preserves transparency; JPEG uses a background color, and static WebP depends on the browser encoder. Individual downloads and the selected-frame ZIP are available together.

Why was my file rejected?

Input up to 20MiB, 4 megapixels per frame and 300 frames. Total RGBA frame cache is limited to 128MiB. Invalid or unsupported file data is rejected. Try a smaller file or another browser if memory or encoding support is insufficient.

Are my files sent to a server?

No. Your input and generated output remain in your browser. Close the page or clear the tool to release its local results.
