THREE SIMPLE STEPS

How to use this tool

  1. Paste a direct media URL

Enter a public HTTPS address for a GIF or MP4 file itself, rather than a Twitter/X, Reddit or Tenor post page.

  2. Request the source file

Select Download direct media. The browser contacts the source without account credentials and checks that the response contains GIF or MP4 data.

  3. Inspect and download

Save the original file using the result download link. If browser access fails, use Open original media URL or choose a GIF you already saved.

MADE FOR THIS TASK

Key features

  • Save original GIF or MP4 bytes

Use an HTTPS address for the media file itself. Downloads do not transcode MP4 or extract media from social post pages.

  • Handle source access restrictions

The browser contacts the original media host, which must allow cross-origin requests. Open the original URL or select a local GIF when access fails.

  • Free, without an account

No payment or proxy service. Your browser fetches the original media host directly; the host can see that request, and local GIF files are not uploaded.

What GIF Link Downloader changes

Paste a public HTTPS URL that points to the actual GIF or MP4 file. A Twitter/X, Reddit or Tenor post page is not a media address and is not extracted.

The browser fetches without account credentials, enforces a 20MiB limit and a 30-second timeout, checks the media signature and downloads the original bytes. MP4 stays a video.

Format details and limits

The source must allow cross-origin browser access. Authentication, expired links or CORS restrictions may prevent downloading. Use Open original media URL or choose a GIF you already downloaded; the tool does not bypass those restrictions.

A practical example

Use an address ending in .gif or a signed media URL from a source that permits browser requests. A .gif filename alone is not proof that the response is GIF data.

Supported files and processing limits

Direct media requests are limited to 20MiB and 30 seconds. Optional local GIF previews are limited to 4 megapixels per frame, 300 frames and a 128MiB RGBA frame cache.

Remote media must permit cross-origin browser access. This tool does not send links to a proxy or scrape post HTML. A source filename is not trusted as proof of the returned media format.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Does a URL ending in .gif guarantee a GIF download?

No. The tool checks the response signature instead of trusting its filename or Content-Type alone. An HTML error page or unsupported file is rejected, even when the address ends in .gif.

Can this extract GIFs from social-media posts?

No. This version accepts direct GIF/MP4 media URLs and does not scrape post pages, bypass login or use a server proxy.

Why does the source open in a tab but fail here?

A website can allow normal navigation while refusing a cross-origin fetch. CORS, expired links or required authentication can prevent access. Open the original media URL to use the browser’s own save controls instead.

Why was my file rejected?

Direct downloads are limited to 20MiB and 30 seconds. Local GIF previews use the frame and memory limits. Invalid or unsupported file data is rejected. Try a smaller file or another browser if memory or encoding support is insufficient.

Are my files sent to a server?

The browser requests the public media URL directly from its source. It does not send your local files to a processing server or use a download proxy.
