THREE SIMPLE STEPS

How to use this tool

  1. Choose your photo

Select a JPEG, PNG or WebP image up to 20MB. Your file stays on this device.

  2. Set the size limit

    Choose 20KB, 50KB, 100KB, 200KB or 2MB, or enter a custom whole-number target. Then select Compress photo.

  3. Preview and download

The tool automatically adjusts JPEG quality and, when needed, pixel dimensions to meet your limit. Check the resulting size, dimensions and preview, then download your JPEG.

MADE FOR THIS TASK

Key features

  • Choose your file-size target

Use 20KB, 50KB, 100KB, 200KB or 2MB presets, or a custom limit. Successful JPEG output stays within your target.

  • Inspect size and dimensions

Preview the result and check its byte count and pixel dimensions before submitting it to a form.

  • Free, without an account

Use the available controls, preview and downloads without sign-up or payment. Processing runs on your device within the stated format and memory limits.

One photo, the file-size limit you need

Compress to 20KB for a small upload limit, 50KB or 100KB for other forms, or choose 200KB or 2MB. These are file-size targets, not country-specific passport requirements.

1KB means 1024 bytes; 1MB means 1024KB. The 2MB preset equals 2048KB. Custom targets range from 1 to 20480KB. A successful result never exceeds your chosen limit and does not need to equal it exactly.

File size and photo dimensions are different

KB and MB measure file size. Pixels measure width and height. We first adjust JPEG quality; images larger than 4000px on their longest side are resized proportionally. If the file is still too large, we automatically reduce pixel dimensions while keeping the aspect ratio. The result shows the original and final dimensions.

Transparent areas become white in the JPEG. Check the preview carefully: compression may reduce fine detail, and this tool does not certify a photo's background, composition or acceptance by any authority.

How to compress a passport photo on iPhone

In Safari, tap Choose file and select an image from the picker. If a HEIC photo is not accepted, first export a JPEG or PNG. Choose your target and tap Compress photo.

Review the preview and tap Download JPEG. Depending on your Safari version, the file may download to Files or open in a preview where you can use Share → Save to Files. Reopen the saved file and check its size before submitting it.

Saving and reopening the result on a physical iPhone is still awaiting verification. Browser simulation does not confirm behavior on every Safari version.

Free online compression, with your photo kept local

There is no account, installation or payment. Compression runs in your browser; your photo, its name and the result are not sent to us. Closing the tab releases the working files.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Can I compress a passport photo to exactly 50KB?

The goal is at most 50KB, not exactly 50KB. We do not enlarge a smaller JPEG just to reach the target.

Will a compressed photo meet passport requirements?

A smaller file does not guarantee an acceptable passport photo. Check the authority's requirements for pixels, physical size, background and composition separately.

Will compression change my photo's dimensions?

Sometimes. If adjusting JPEG quality cannot meet your limit, pixel dimensions are reduced automatically with the same aspect ratio. Images over 4000px on their longest side are also resized. Review the final dimensions and clarity; a larger target may preserve more detail.

What files can I use?

JPEG, PNG and WebP, up to 20MB and 40 million decoded pixels. Output is JPEG. HEIC, PDF and animated image processing are not supported.

Can I compress a passport photo online for free?

Yes. All size presets and custom targets are free, with no account or payment. Your browser processes the photo locally, and you can preview and download the JPEG.
